Uganda is a land-locked country with varying terrain. There is grassy savannah as well as verdent rainforest. Uganda is about the size of Oregen State. It has about 28 million people from over 20 different tribes. It borders Lake Victoria to the south and the Nile River flows through the center towards northen Uganda. Uganda is bordered by Sudan to the North, the D.R. Congo on west and Rwanda to the south-west, Tanzania to the south and Kenya on the east. The capital is Kampala - a city spread out over seven hills and a bustling center for trade and business. Entebbe is the sight of Uganda's International Airport which is on a beautiful peninsula that juts out into Lake Victoria. Visitors are greeted with the warm tropical air from Lake Victoria as they step onto the tarmac at Entebbe. Jinja is a beautiful city, the second largest in Uganda, situated 80km east of the capital on Lake Victoria. The drive there includes beautiful tea and sugar plantations as well a scenic pass through Mabira Forest. The Sperlings will be living in Jinja at the YWAM base when they move there in 2007. The base is on the east side of Jinja near the town of Kakira where there is a huge sugar factory.
Most farmers are small-holders with a few acres of land to sustain their families. Many lack education and help to overcome the difficulties they are faced with.
